This "pay for what's been funded by publicly provided money," by state or commercial interests, remains a serious impediment to work for those sans access to the money or funds some well heeled publishers of journals and papers think we have waiting to hand over to corporate greed, no matter how efficient it may be in the business sense. One can see how "smart" the Elsevier model is yet I believe it creates silos and firewalls that are anything but inclusive and amount to economic censorship. Sharing is caring...

Freedom of truth is the aspiration that all humanity should aim for. Greed can only hold us back in our development as an interconnected \'single\' consciousness. Science has proved that once a critical number of individuals have acquired knowledge of a certain fact the rest learn it psycicly. Truth therefore can raise humanity to our intended heights.

I am strongly against Scopus. I am editor-in-chief of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnosemiotics. I submitted my journal to Scopus and recently I have received answer from Scopus that they can\\\'t accept our journal \\\'cause \\\"No international diversity among authors\\\" and \\\"Unclear editorial concept/strategy\\\"., such statements are nothing else, but lie since there are authors from Australia, Japan, Nigeria and Russia in the journal; also, editorial concept is clearly shown. Such \\\"review\\\" means that Scopus reviewers didn\\\'t take even a superficial glance at the site of journal, or, probably, by some people who have certain preconceived attitude toward some of materials we published. Scopus should just register journals, but it evaluate their values by unclear and unfair criteria. Evaluation of scientific journals should not be privilege/monopoly of Elsevier corporation and any other corporation as well. Value of indexing should be seriously revised/limited.

We requested only the Engineering Subject and local vendor quoted as huge amount of money for a small college where the usage will be only the fraction. We library professionals should work closely to monitor the high cost of knowledge getting not only from the Developed countries but also from the under develop countries. I think, cost of subscription should depends on the usage not only FTE but the useful FTE.

I started a labor of love ScientistSolutions.com as a free site for scientists to get help with their experiments. Monday we launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to recode the site. We also help get lab doors closed through ScientistSolutionsEvents.com. Can you help spread the word to your network. If we reach our goal we will award $25k in grants to institutions and labs mentioned most.

The current model is obsolete. It is not necessary to use paper anymore. It is not necessary to bundle several electronic articles into a journal issue. The peer review method to assure quality can not cope with the exponential growth of articles. A revolution is necessary.

I was very annoyed when a few months ago Elsevier took initiative to block access to its databases for two Iranian universities, in accordance with EU sanctions over the country. The idea of an academic publisher as a political means does not comply with measures based on which the academic community has been shaped, and is therefore unacceptable.
